Joo Haknyeon Accused of Overseas Prostitution with Former AV Actress: Broker-Led Celebrity Ring Emerge

On June 19, a formal complaint was submitted via Korea’s national civil service portal, demanding a full probe into former THE BOYZ member Joo Haknyeon’s alleged actions and any possible involvement by his agency staff or outside brokers. The complaint emphasized that this was not just a personal scandal but could indicate a systemic celebrity prostitution ring operating with agency and industry complicity.

“This should not be brushed off as an isolated incident. It raises serious concerns about organized coordination possibly involving staff, producers, and overseas brokers,” the complaint read.

In addition to Joo Haknyeon, Japanese and Chinese media have reported that the “blacklist” of celebrities suspected of having inappropriate romantic relationships or shady dealings with Asuka Kirara also includes baseball star Darvish, actor Shun Oguri, Alan Luo, musician Hiro, and others.

According to China Times, Asuka Kirara was allegedly once a mistress and received financial support from baseball player Darvish while the Major League Baseball star was still married. At the time, Asuka Kirara even openly challenged Darvish’s wife by attending one of his games as a “fan,” wearing a jersey with her own name printed on it to cheer for her lover. However, Darvish reportedly dumped her without hesitation, as the playboy athlete only wanted a casual fling with the adult film actress.

After Darvish, it was revealed that Asuka Kirara “seduced” Shun Oguri and had an intimate relationship with the A-list actor. Japanese media reported that Oguri’s wife flew into a rage and smashed her phone upon discovering her husband’s affair with Asuka Kirara. Meanwhile, ETtoday uncovered that Asuka Kirara was also one of Alan Luo’s secret lovers and frequently attended the scandal-ridden star’s wild parties. Additionally, Asuka Kirara was photographed in intimate situations and had an unclear relationship with musician Hiro in 2019.

The Seoul Gangnam Police Women and Juvenile Affairs Division confirmed the receipt of the complaint and assigned it to Investigation Team 4, pledging a fair and thorough inquiry.

The case erupted after Japanese tabloid Shūkan Bunshun reported on June 18 that Joo Haknyeon was spotted at a private bar in Tokyo’s Roppongi district, allegedly drinking and engaging in physical contact with Asuka Kirara. The article claimed the two later had sexual relations, during which money was reportedly exchanged.

While the allegations remain unproven, Korea’s Anti-Prostitution Act allows for prosecution of overseas prostitution, stipulating up to one year in prison or a 3 million KRW fine for offenders.

Previously, on June 16—two days before the story broke—Joo’s label OneHundred Label terminated his exclusive contract and announced his departure from THE BOYZ, citing the gravity of the situation. This preemptive action has fueled speculation that the agency was aware of the incident in advance.

As public scrutiny mounts and legal proceedings begin, attention is now focused on whether Joo acted alone or as part of a broader network involving agency figures, external producers, or Japanese brokers. The results of the police investigation may have far-reaching implications for K-pop’s image and industry practices.
